Vintage Glam in Denver!

Hi all!!!
We are back from Colorado and had an amazing time.
Of course I was on a mission to find the coolest vintage stores in town. We hit Antique Row in downtown Denver first. We came across 2 stores that really caught my eye while driving through town. They are Chic Antiques a Boutique and Regal Vintage both located on South Broadway.

Sabine is the store owner and is super cute and spunky. Check out her 60's mini skirt and go go boots! This is a must see store for sure. She has tons of true vintage pieces and everything is cleaned and mended before she puts it out on the floor. And by the way....no funky smell when you walk into her store. This store is true Hollywood Glam all the way.

One of the things I found helpful was that she separates most of her clothing according to era. One thing that was a slight bummer was that many of the items were not priced. Overall....my favorite store so far in all of Colorado!

She has a website but it isn't active
www.chic-antiques.com
Her business phone number is 303.325.5108
I looked her up on Yelp and she has good reviews. There is also a great picture of the store interior.

Second fav is Regal Vintage.

This store has a funky vibe and the owners are cool too!
Jam-packed to the ceilings literally! This store has lots of 60's, 70's and 80's stuff. They have some unusual antiques but mostly clothing and accessories. Prices were reasonable overall.

On Wednesdays they buy and trade clothing
They have a great variety of sequin dresses and purses.
The only downside....the store is so packed it's hard to really see what they have. It would be difficult for a larger person to get around in this store.
Overall, one of the better selections in vintage clothing.

Regal Vintage has a website...but again it isn't active.
www.RegalVintage.com
Business number is 303.830.0216
Lots of + Yelp reviews
Fun * Fabulous * Funky is their thing

Recipe- Raw Marinara Sauce

The last of my father-in-law's San Marzano tomatoes. Until I make another visit to the wine country that is. What shall I make????

First, a little history about the San Marzano. Compared to the Roma tomatoes that most are familiar with, the Marzano tomatoes are thinner and pointier in shape. The flesh is thicker and they have fewer seeds. The taste is stronger, sweeter and less acidic. Which is important when making sauce.

So I decide to whip up a Raw Marinara Sauce. Raw meaning totally uncooked.

In 2007 I became interested in the Raw Food lifestyle. I got some training and became a Raw Food Prep Chef. The title sounds more impressive than it actually is. The real education came while living the lifestyle and creating things on my own. Transitioning from vegetarian to vegan was always challenging on Friday’s because that was our designated night for PIZZA! I have to admit...we went back and forth for a while. You can really feel the difference when you go off dairy and then back on. It can be brutal on the stomach if you know what I mean.

Today, I continue to enjoy a vegan lifestyle. I combine both raw and cooked ingredients on most days and find that it’s easier to maintain. I don’t know everything there is to know about vegan recipes, but I do know what works for me. I’ve helped a lot of people to understand and get started on this path and would be happy to help you as well. Just drop me a line when you are ready to get started.

Raw Marinara Sauce

4-5 Dates
1 ½ Tablespoon of Sun-Dried Tomatoes
Soak these in a bowl of water. Let them soften up while you work on combining the other ingredients
-----------------------------------------------
Combine the following in a food processor using the “S” blade.
Just pulse until everything begins to break down. Don't over process because it'll become too runny.

7-10 Tomatoes (depending on the size)chop in half before processing
Fresh Basil – about 5 large leaves (or a teaspoon of dried)
Fresh Parsley – small handful (remove from stems)
Extra Virgin Olive Oil – about 3 tablespoons
Fresh Lemon Juice – juice of ½ lemon (no seeds)
Dried Oregano (pinch)
Dried Rosemary (pinch)
Fresh Garlic Clove – 1
Raw Red Onion – about 2 tablespoons worth of diced onion
Sea Salt - pinch

After you've processed all the ingredients...transfer the sauce into a bowl.
Now process the dates and the sun-dried tomatoes on their own until they are really broken down.
Once you've done that...add the processed dates and sun-dried tomatoes to the bowl of sauce.
Now mix everything together.

That's it! Ready to serve
If you are avoiding gluten...use a flax cracker or slice some raw zucchini chips and put the sauce on top. These make great appetizers!
Try it over a crustini (read labels)

Although the instructions are long...the whole prep time is under 15 minutes.

Enjoy
Polly

Estate Sale Trail

Got up super early today and decided to hit the estate sale trail.
My best find of the day was this awesome vintage scale. Okay maybe it's not a functioning scale but after I'm done with it.... it'll function as something.

The next best thing of the day was this beautiful quilt. It's vintage for sure but I'm not sure if it's handmade completly. It looks like it was machine "finished" but the edges look as though it was hand stitched. Interesting. Oh well, what matters is that I love the pattern and that it is in great condition. Someone is going to love it.

Polly's VEGAN PICK-ME-UP RECIPE

1-2 cups cooked and cooled brown rice (short grain)
1-2 large avocado (diced)
2-3 Fresh/Raw San Marzano Italian Tomatoes (diced)
1/4 cup Raw Sunflower Seeds
1/4 cup Raw Red Onion (finely chopped)
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (about 4-6 tablespoons)
Fresh squeezed juice from half a lemon ( I like mine tart so I add tons)
Sea Salt and Ground Black Pepper

Combine gently
Chill and serve
Try to stick with organic products when you can.

Enjoy!

PS....I put my husband on a vegan program 2 months ago and he has dropped 20 pounds! He's feeling great and looking better than ever :-D
